Archaeological Sites of Curubande

In the vicinity of Curubandé, remnants of ancient indigenous villages that were part of the Gran Nicoya region, an important archaeological zone in Mesoamerica, have been found. These pre-Columbian communities had cultural and commercial ties with the Mayan and Aztec cultures.

Near the Blanco River and other bodies of water, petroglyphs or rock carvings can be found that depict human figures, animals, and geometric patterns likely of ceremonial or religious significance. (300 AD and 800 AD)

Due to its proximity to the park, it is believed to have held spiritual significance for pre-Columbian cultures, as many volcanoes in the region were considered sacred. It is likely that indigenous communities performed rituals in these areas.

Although Curubandé is not as renowned for its archaeological sites as other parts of Costa Rica, its connection to the indigenous heritage of Gran Nicoya makes it an interesting place to explore the history and archaeology of the region.
